Winter is coming to the Winelands, and while most people think that travelling in the winter is not a great idea, we disagree. There are countless things that one can do in the Winelands during the winter season, here is how we recommend you relax and get cosy.
Who can resist a glass of red wine or a cup of hot coffee by a warm fire? If the weather outside is gloomy then there are many cafes, coffee shops and tasting rooms where you can snuggle up by a roaring fireplace. For an impressive fireplace, we recommend the tasting rooms at; La Motte, Lanzerac and Waterkloof.
Many tasting rooms offer chocolate, cheese or biltong pairings. We are big fans of the chocolate pairing at Waterford, cheese pairing at Fairview, and Biltong pairing at La Bri.
If you are a jazz or cheese fan then don’t miss an afternoon of jazz and fondue in Delheim’s snug tasting cellar. Every Sunday from June 23rd to August 25th this warming event is perfect to melt those winter blues.
From June 1st till August 31st Spier offers three hearty soup pairings served with an assortment of focaccia and matched with wines from Seaward; their new range of single varietals.
If you want something a little stronger to warm you up, then KWV offers a brandy tour with a brandy blending experience. Or head to Van Ryns to taste three award-winning brandies paired with home-made Belgian chocolate and Brazilian coffee.
Game drives are great fun, but in the cold weather it can be far from comfortable. Vredenheim Animal Farm will help make it more pleasant with a free glass of port to warm you up when you join them on one of their game drives.
